Heal Your Hurting Mind pt. 3

WHAT’S HOLDING YOU BACK?

  • You are a spirit with a soul that lives in a body.

“May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”    1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NIV)

  • Salvation is instant, but healing takes time.

  • A hurting mind isn’t a broken mind; it’s healing in progress.

“He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”     Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)

1. RECOGNIZE THE POWER OF COMPLACENCY

“Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.”   John 5:1-5 (NIV)

Bethesda means "House of Grace," yet it was filled with people stuck in their brokenness.   It is entirely possible to sit inside the house of grace while remaining  completely bound by a hurting mindset.

2. FACE THE HARD QUESTIONS TO BREAK FREE

“When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, ‘Do you want to get well?’”               John 5:6 (NIV)

Jesus targets the mind before He ever touches the body.

What you resist the hardest is often what you need the most.

3. QUIT MAKING EXCUSES

“‘Sir,’ the invalid replied, ‘I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.’”   John 5:7 (NIV)

Thirty-eight years of waiting can train your mind to focus entirely on who let you down and what you lack.

Excuses protect your comfort zone but lock you in your captivity.

4. TAKE THE NEXT STEP EVEN WHEN YOU CAN’T SEE IT

“Then Jesus said to him, ‘Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.’ At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.”               John 5:8-9 (NIV)

Jesus asks you to meet His grace with your faith.

Your faith speaks louder than facts.

Do what you can, and trust God to do what you can’t.
